Where it all began

The story begins 8 years ago sitting with my second child at 4am looking at beauty therapy courses in the area. I was hooked! Within 3 months my training commenced and as they say, the rest is history. 

In early 2016 a family member hurt their back. Swimming was to become a big part of their recovery journey, but not being able to bend down to paint their own toenails bothered them. As I was on maternity leave they asked for my help to get them swimming pool ready and I happily obliged. I enjoyed painting their toenails so much that it started a chain of events that led to me becoming a fully qualified beauty therapist. 

In September 2016 I started an NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy at Llandrillo College. I studied there for 2 years, completing my Level 2 and 3 NVQs. Whilst studying and raising my two young children I also started to work part time at Arch Angelz in Llandudno providing lash, brow and nail treatments. 

In October of 2018, having completed my studies 2 months before, my part time employment came to an end. At this point my focus shifted temporarily to house renovations and this led me to decide to start my own Beauty Therapy business from home. 

Almi’s Beauty Room started in my upstairs spare bedroom slowly building a client base starting with friends and family. After a year of trading we needed the extra bedroom space and decided to convert our garage into what is now the Beauty Room. My business benefits from being in my garden as I don’t have to travel far to get to work meaning I can better fit my clients around my family life. 

During the Covid pandemic like most people our hair grew and grew and I was doing DIY haircuts at home for the men in my life. A friend of mine approached me and asked me if I’d like to join her on a barbering course at the local college. I jumped at the chance and spent the next 2 years studying barbering. I qualified with an NVQ level 2 in Barbering. I was then able to add these services to my repertoire.  

After almost 6 years of being a Beauty Therapist and Barber I still love my job. I love not working a 9-5 job, it allows me to work around my clients busy schedules offering them early morning or evening treatments. It also enables me to be more present at home for my family, especially after the addition of my third child. I still love being able to provide services that help my clients live to their fullest and I love making my clients happy.
